Every Breath You Take

As we marched thru the streets around the White House police from different agencies were lined against the inside of the route, preventing marchers from rushing the White House or getting rowdy. I must say that in my experience the police from all agencies were extremely courteous and for the most part did not look like the storm trooper cops we had down here in Miami for the FTAA and in Fort Lauderdale for the Organization of American States. Protesters had complete freedom in front of the White House and were not corralled like animals as was experienced in Fort Lauderdale during OAS. Many of the protesters in DC taunted the cops trying to make them smile and even went so far as to try and make them join in for the march. I photographed most of the police along the route. I caught this shot between her smiling and almost cracking up with laughter. I am very happy with the quality of the photo and I hope she is a browser of deviantART. I'm a firefighter asking a firefighter... When really I should be asking a cop... But I was in DC the week after the rally for the first time since before 9/11. I noticed all of the cops wearing those pouches on their sides. Any idea what that is? Is everyone wearing gas masks on their person now?

Well that is what they are... I am not sure if that is now DC SOP or what... I'm guessing they are under a much higher alert then other depts. around the country and because of this their SOPs dictate they carry a gas mask at all times....

hmm I wonder if they'll let me walk around in my uniform shirt and carry a big stick when we have the open house...

I wonder if it makes a difference if you're a firefighter and not a cop...
