"Don't Touch the Federal Fountain!"

This past Wednesday moveon.org organized for the night a candle lit vigil to be held at many locations around the nation. I went to the one that was held in Fort Lauderdale near the Federal Court Building. As you can imagine Homeland Security Police were out in force getting on anyone that even came close to the building. Because I had a camera I was asked for my identification and then had to wait for a long while to get it back while they assessed the risk I may be. The photo of the woman being confronted by the Police was because her 2 year old child ventured too close to the building. Just so you know the building is about 10 feet from the sidewalk but it was the federal water fountain that was attracting the child and supposedly that was a huge federal no no… With the vigil being held in the evening the light was not very kind to me. I am for the most part against using flash so the shots I found good enough to post are limited.

clearly they are conditioning us to get used to a state where the police and ordinary citizens are at war. it's ridiculous that ordinary people would be pushed back from a federal building and the water fountain, which by definition WE pay for. somehow the role of government as servant to the people is being twisted and perverted into something quite unintended by the founders.

What was intended by the founders is way gone :(

I just love those first two. You have such a talent for catching raw emotion. Well done.

In the USA that's not an offensive sign...holding up two fingers like that. In the US flipping someone off means having only the middle finger sticking up. What the girl was doing is a gesture that means "Peace" here.

I know, it was mostly a joke.

Although the standard peace symbol (even in the US, and Florida if you consider it part of the US) is the index and middle raised, palm out.

I still think the idea of the girl flipping off the camera is a funny one.

but that may just be my own quirky sense of humor

I wasn't sure how to contact you but since I was looking at your photos... I am posting as 'anonymous' because I know nothing of livejournal. I want to buy some of the pics of me and mine at the protests. (It's Lisa - remember me? We spoke at the Cindy Sheehan vigil...that's me and Brishen in the 'Fuck Bush' pic - no, really!) I would love to buy a print of that one, the first one here of me and the cops (and actually it was more me confronting them than them, me! HA.) - oh, actually, I would like one of each of these four, and also #32 in the OAS protest series because the mohawked beauty with the contemplative face is my middle son and I love that shot of him. You do well with that camera of yours! So whatcha think? LMK how to go about it if this is not a good connection for such business. Peace.

I'll keep you up to date... I'm sure there will be many more coming up. I usually skip the smaller ones, but if it sounds really good I will usually even take off work for those ;)
